It made me laugh。 It made me weep。 I loved the juxtaposition of the physical suffering that can elevate and bring victory with the silent suffering that can bring demise。 I found myself frequently nodding my head in agreement and understanding。 I feel like I have known Cory since days beyond recall because our storylines and subplots share many of the same trajectories。 My heart ached because I understand and have been there too。 Yet, I celebrate how Cory leaned into the suffering, and the incre It made me laugh。 It made me weep。 I loved the juxtaposition of the physical suffering that can elevate and bring victory with the silent suffering that can bring demise。 I found myself frequently nodding my head in agreement and understanding。 I feel like I have known Cory since days beyond recall because our storylines and subplots share many of the same trajectories。 My heart ached because I understand and have been there too。 Yet, I celebrate how Cory leaned into the suffering, and the incredible human that has emerged on the other side。 。。。more

Do you want to laugh, cry, and generally just feel all the feels? Then this book is for you!Like his first two books, this book is filled with funny stories and shenanigans。 Cory's genuine sense of humor is like no other。 The beauty of the book is how Cory weaves some very heavy topics together with a raw vulnerability that really connects you to his story。 It's not every day you read something this emotional and powerful。 I'm not a runner, but I put the book down feeling motivated and inspired Do you want to laugh, cry, and generally just feel all the feels? I am thrilled to finally share with you the most important thing I’ve ever written - my new book Stronger Than the Dark。 Stronger Than the Dark is my deeply personal story of being surrounded by the shadow of depression, and the battle I faced to claw my way out of the dark。 I’ve been a social worker for nearly 20 years, but there was so much I never fully understood about depression until I experienced it myself。 In the book, I confront some very difficult questions: - Why is it so hard to feel I am thrilled to finally share with you the most important thing I’ve ever written - my new book Stronger Than the Dark。 Stronger Than the Dark is my deeply personal story of being surrounded by the shadow of depression, and the battle I faced to claw my way out of the dark。 I’ve been a social worker for nearly 20 years, but there was so much I never fully understood about depression until I experienced it myself。 In the book, I confront some very difficult questions: - Why is it so hard to feel good enough?- How do you let yourself be vulnerable and say how you’re really feeling?- When you’re being suffocated by the darkness of depression, how do you find the light? And maybe the most difficult question of all…- What do you do when you can’t outrun depression? This book explores the unique advantage runners have in the fight against depression, and how we can turn trauma into post-traumatic growth。I want you to join me in beginning a conversation about the masks we wear, and the struggles we face。 All around us, people are suffering in silence。 I want to be part of a movement that makes it okay to admit our weaknesses and ask for help。 In this moment, you might be the one shining the light, or you might be the one searching for it。 Wherever you are on the path, keep reaching and keep fighting。 Together, we are stronger than the dark。 Thanks for your love and support。 Consider this a virtual hug。 。。。more

Actually 4。75 stars due to that jab at PE teachers 😳 but in all seriousness, this was an amazing and raw look at what depression is like and I am so glad he decided to share his journey

“We are here to endure。”In his powerful new memoir, Cory Reese turns inward, writing a deeply personal story about his battles with depression。 We’ve all no doubt been depressed from time to time, but this is on another level。 Cory describes it as like a black cloud that follows you around, occasionally completely engulfing you for no apparent reason。 This sort of intense depression is a constant, personal battle。 In recent times, more and more famous people have come forward on this subject, so “We are here to endure。”In his powerful new memoir, Cory Reese turns inward, writing a deeply personal story about his battles with depression。 We’ve all no doubt been depressed from time to time, but this is on another level。 Cory describes it as like a black cloud that follows you around, occasionally completely engulfing you for no apparent reason。 This sort of intense depression is a constant, personal battle。 In recent times, more and more famous people have come forward on this subject, sometimes champions (Rob Krar, Nikki Kimball, Naomi Osaka) and, yes, sometimes folks who are nowhere near first。 This is an engaging account of how he battled his demons, with counseling, medication, introspection, and - of course! - ultrarunning。 For those who enjoyed his previous books, no worries, there are still lots of vastly entertaining sections about things that happen during an ultra, mostly focusing on the 2019 Vol State 314-mile trek across Tennessee。The book is unflinchingly honest, more than occasionally laugh-out-loud funny (serious subject or not, it’s still Cory Reese we’re talking about here), impressively introspective, and brave。 Incredibly brave。 It’s certainly not easy to admit to your weaknesses, or to be so publicly vulnerable。 It’s a potent story of overcoming adversity, written with humor, grace, and fearless candor。 。。。more

Ultramarathoner Cory Reese has written an inspiring and very helpful book about dealing with depression using lessons he learned from long-distance running。 STRONGER THAN THE DARK shows that there is hope even when you hit bottom。 Heartfelt and utterly real, Cory’s story will deeply touch others similarly suffering, and suggest that you can overcome your darkest days with courage, persistence and truth。 Highly recommended for those seeking light in their journey and for readers who love beautifu Ultramarathoner Cory Reese has written an inspiring and very helpful book about dealing with depression using lessons he learned from long-distance running。 STRONGER THAN THE DARK shows that there is hope even when you hit bottom。 Heartfelt and utterly real, Cory’s story will deeply touch others similarly suffering, and suggest that you can overcome your darkest days with courage, persistence and truth。 Highly recommended for those seeking light in their journey and for readers who love beautifully written memoirs。 5 of 5 StarsPub Date: June 8, 2021#StrongerThanDarkness #CoryReeseThanks to the author and publisher for the review copy in exchange for my honest opinion。 。。。more

This is the third book by the author & perhaps the most raw and honest one to date。 Cory Reese speaks frankly about the topics that so many of us avoid like religion and feeling like we must act a certain way。 He explores these relationships and how they can both harm and help us。 In the end he provides us that poignant reminder that we are Stronger Than The Dark。

This is Cory's third book。 I've read all three。 All are very good, but Stronger Than the Dark is at a whole new level。 This is not a running book。 It is a book about life, struggle, depression, vulnerability, redemption, and the unending process of healing。 There is so much mor I want to say because this book connected to my soul, yet I think it best to simply implore you to read it。 This is Cory's third book。 I've read all three。 All are very good, but Stronger Than the Dark is at a whole new level。 This is not a running book。 It is a book about life, struggle, depression, vulnerability, redemption, and the unending process of healing。 There is so much mor I want to say because this book connected to my soul, yet I think it best to simply implore you to read it。 。。。more

This third and best book by Cory Reese is about some very serious struggles and questions。 It exposes his fears and connects with everyone on some level。 It’s an inspirational story of his efforts to overcome spiritual, physical and mental injuries by facing his fears。 It’s an amazing book !!
